I’ve always wanted a Shiba. They require a lot of training and I am up to the challenge. I learn something new everyday, and so does she haha.

Apple showed a preview of what iPhone 4.0 will offer.  It’s a bunch of features that people have been asking for, and they’ve finally implemented them in a very “Apple” way.

First big thing is Multi-tasking.  Other phones do it already, but Apple didn’t want to do it because it drained the battery so much. I know that Jailbreak iPhones can do it, but the users complain that the battery dies too fast.  So Apple introduced 7 new methods for developers to multi-task their app.

Details are in the video, but you can have radio apps play in the background, use VOIP services like Skype while checking your mail, GPS and location services with a status bar icon to show if something is requesting your location, push and local notifications, task completion for apps that upload pictures or blogs, and fast app switching, basically a sleep state for apps.

Next you can make folders on your home pages for all your apps.  Edit your homescreen and layer apps on one another and a folder is created, similar to events in iPhoto.  The icon shows a preview of the apps inside of it, and you can also put these folders on the dock if you want.  You can also now store 2100+ apps on the iPhone, up from the current 180.

The Mail app gets an update (YAY!) with a unified inbox for multiple email accounts, you can do multiple exchange accounts (YAY!!), organize by thread and open attachments using other iPhone apps.

iBooks comes to the iPhone, Enterprise and businesses with IT departments get some updates, there’s a game center, similar to XBox Live and OpenFeint.

Then there is iAd. The emotional ad service. Basically an app within an app, iAd is an interface within the iPhone that can display ads in a more interactive way within already-open apps. Pretty cool, but I usually don’t look at the ads anyway, so we’ll see how this develops.

It’s available this summer, around the same time the new iPhone 4g is rumored to be released.  iPad update will be this Fall.

The new 4.0 update will fully work on the 3gs and the 3rd gen iPod Touch, but the multi-tasking and some other unknown things will not work on the iPhone 3g or anything older.
